Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between auto painting and manual painting?
Auto painting is when an artist uses a software program to clone and automatically paint a digital photo.  Within minutes the computer clones the photo does 100% of the work using emulated paint strokes to give some type of painted look.  The artist then usually erases parts of the auto painted image around the eyes, nose, and mouth to bring back details of the original photo. When manual painting, the canvas starts out blank and every aspect of the painting is done by hand by the artist using traditional painting methods.  A digital pencil is used to create a rough sketch, a base color is blocked in blended and refined one brush stroke at a time.
Do you auto paint images?
Absolutely not.  Software is used to create images, however each one is painted by hand using the same techniques a traditional painters would. Painting by hand is the only way to have 100% complete control and ensure every detail is captured.
What digital file formats do the images come in?
Images are delivered in a .jpg and .png file format which are accepted by most printers.
What size are the digital paintings?
Paintings are high resolution 16"x 20" images at 300+ dpi.  This size allows customers to reduce or enlarge their prints while maintaining detail.  The average download size of each file is between 25 mb up to 60 mb.
How much does it cost?
Portraits start at $95 for the first person or pet.  An additional $20 charge is added for each additional person or pet.  Landscapes start at $95.  Prices will vary depending upon complexity, detail of an image, and estimated time it will take to complete the project.  Fantasy illustration image modifications are negotiable.  Photo restoration and photo manipulation starts at $25.
What are the advantages of digital painting vs. traditional methods?
There are many advantages to digital paintings. The price is more affordable because there are no material expenses. Faster turn around time because you don't have to wait for paint to dry. The digital images look just like real paintings because traditional techniques are used. Print whatever you like and as many times as you want, such as posters, t-shirts, mugs, metal, acrylic, canvas, greetings cards, etc. No postage fees. Fast delivery. Delivery time is only limited by your internet download speed.
What are the reference photo requirements?
Scans / digital photos must be large and clear enough to be able to zoom in and see details.  Small/low resolution pixelated images are not favorable.
How long does the painting process take?
Depending upon the complexity of the image, turn around time is usually 4 - 7 days.
What forms of payment do you take?
Cash, CC payments, and tips are accepted via Paypal.  A 50% down deposit is required before starting any project and the remaining balance is due upon completion prior to digital delivery.
Do you ship overseas or to P.O. boxes?
Paintings/digital files are uploaded to a web server where customers can download them to their computer or mobile device.  This eliminates any shipping related procedures or expenses.
What is your return policy?
Online proofing is provided so the customer can see the progress and participate in the creation of their digital painting.  Minor modifications/tweaks are free of charge.  In the event that the customer is not satisfied with the final painted image and a resolution can't be reached, then a 100% refund is given.
